Mechanical Engineer
Join a collaborative, safety‑minded team as a Mechanical Engineer to design, test, and field‑support reliable mechanical systems across infrastructure and building projects.
We are seeking a collaborative, detail‑oriented, and safety‑focused mechanical engineer to support design, analysis, testing, and field implementation of mechanical systems across infrastructure, industrial, and building projects. The successful candidate will partner with project managers, structural and civil engineers, controls and electrical specialists, contractors, and clients to deliver practical, cost‑effective mechanical solutions that meet performance, schedule, and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, hands‑on device and system experience, excellent communication, and a commitment to continuous improvement and risk‑aware project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and execute mechanical design tasks including concept development, detailed design, equipment selection, and specification of fabrication and installation requirements.
Perform mechanical system analyses (e.g., thermal, structural, fluid flow, HVAC, vibration) using hand calculations and engineering software; validate results with engineering judgment and sensitivity studies.
Develop equipment and component designs for pumps, fans, heat exchangers, piping, pressure vessels, conveyors, and rotating machinery, incorporating manufacturability and maintainability considerations.
Prepare detailed drawings, parts lists, equipment schedules, and technical specifications to support procurement, fabrication, and construction using CAD and relevant drafting standards.
Support procurement by preparing bid packages, evaluating vendor submittals, performing technical reviews, and participating in vendor meetings to confirm compliance with project requirements.
Lead and participate in prototype development, laboratory and field testing, commissioning, and performance verification; document test plans, results, and recommended corrective actions.
Coordinate with structural, electrical, controls, and civil disciplines to integrate mechanical systems into overall project designs and resolve interdisciplinary interfaces.
Provide technical support during construction and startup, including site visits, shop drawing review, field troubleshooting, and issuance of engineering clarifications.
Conduct failure investigations, root cause analyses, and recommend design or operational changes to improve reliability, safety, and lifecycle costs.
Perform risk assessments, constructability reviews, and value‑engineering to manage project risks and optimize cost and schedule outcomes.
Maintain and enforce health, safety, and environmental practices on site visits and during testing; ensure teams follow safe work procedures for mechanical operations and confined space entry where applicable.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians, review technical deliverables, and support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the mechanical team.
Required Qualifications - Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
3+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience involving equipment design, system integration, and field support for infrastructure, industrial, or building projects.
Practical experience with mechanical design tools and methodologies, including CAD (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks), piping and layout drafting, and engineering calculations for loads, stress, and thermal performance.
Experience with HVAC, fluid systems, rotating equipment, pressure-containing components, and material selection for mechanical systems.
Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ASHRAE, API, ANSI) and ability to apply them to design and documentation.
Strong analytical skills and experience with simulation and analysis software (e.g., FEA, CFD, piping stress analysis) and engineering spreadsheets for calculations and sensitivity studies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills: able to prepare clear technical reports, equipment specifications, and present findings to project teams and clients.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment; collaborate across disciplines; and maintain attention to detail while delivering results on schedule.
Proficiency with common office/productivity software and familiarity with CAD/GIS for plan preparation and site mapping as needed.
Preferred Qualifications - Domain & Tools
Professional licensure (e.g., PE, P.Eng.) or progress toward licensure preferred.
Experience with commissioning, reliability testing, vibration analysis, and condition‑based monitoring for rotating equipment.
Familiarity with manufacturing and fabrication practices, shop testing, and quality control/assurance processes.
Experience working with contractors, fabricators, testing laboratories, and regulatory agencies; familiarity with permitting and inspection processes advantageous.
Training or certifications in pressure equipment, HVAC systems, welding standards, or machine safety are a plus.
Work Environment & Compensation
Full‑time position within an interdisciplinary engineering and project delivery organization; role combines office‑based engineering work with frequent site visits, equipment testing, and coordination with fabricators and contractors.
Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience, including health coverage, retirement plan options, paid time off, and professional development support.
Opportunities for training, certifications, conference participation, and career growth within a diverse, inclusive, and safety‑focused workplace.
We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and foster a respectful work environment that supports work‑life balance and employee well‑being.
