Maintenance Engineer
Join a collaborative, safety‑minded team as a Maintenance Engineer to keep pumps, HVAC, and rotating equipment reliable — hands‑on troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
We are seeking a collaborative, detail‑oriented, and safety‑focused maintenance engineer to support the reliability, inspection, repair, and lifecycle management of mechanical and electromechanical systems across industrial, infrastructure, and building assets. The successful candidate will partner with operations, maintenance technicians, engineering design teams, contractors, and vendors to deliver practical, cost‑effective maintenance solutions that meet performance, reliability, safety, and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong mechanical and systems fundamentals, hands‑on troubleshooting experience, excellent communication, and a commitment to continuous improvement and risk‑aware asset stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, plan, and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for pumps, compressors, rotating equipment, HVAC systems, piping, valves, and ancillary systems to achieve reliability and availability targets.
Conduct root cause analyses, failure investigations, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) activities to identify failure modes and implement corrective actions that reduce repeat failures and lifecycle costs.
Lead and participate in troubleshooting and hands‑on repairs in the field, providing technical guidance to maintenance technicians and contractors during outages, turnarounds, and emergency response events.
Implement and manage condition‑based monitoring programs (vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, performance trending) and interpret data to schedule interventions and optimize maintenance strategies.
Prepare and maintain maintenance procedures, work instructions, equipment histories, spare parts lists, and asset criticality documentation; ensure accurate records in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Support procurement and vendor management by developing scopes of work, reviewing vendor proposals and submittals, overseeing on‑site vendor activities, and verifying workmanship and testing results.
Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project teams to evaluate modification requests, design changes, and capital improvements from a maintainability and reliability perspective.
Develop and execute testing, commissioning, and post‑repair verification plans to validate equipment performance and ensure return to service meets specifications.
Perform risk assessments, lockout/tagout planning, and permit‑to‑work coordination to ensure safe execution of maintenance activities; promote and enforce health, safety, and environmental best practices.
Train and mentor maintenance staff and contractors on technical procedures, safe work practices, troubleshooting techniques, and use of diagnostic tools and test equipment.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives including spare parts optimization, maintenance strategy reviews, and lifecycle cost analyses to improve reliability and reduce total cost of ownership.
Required Qualifications - Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Technology, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and practical maintenance experience.
3+ years of progressive maintenance engineering or technical maintenance experience supporting rotating equipment, HVAC, fluid systems, and pressure‑retaining components in industrial, building, or infrastructure environments.
Hands‑on troubleshooting and repair experience with pumps, motors, gearboxes, fans, valves, and control actuators; familiarity with alignment, balancing, and basic machining/field repair techniques.
Experience with condition monitoring tools and diagnostic methods including vibration analysis, oil/fuel analysis, thermography, and performance trending.
Proficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS), work planning, spare parts management, and preparation of maintenance procedures and technical reports.
Strong analytical skills and experience performing root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and life‑cycle cost assessments.
Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, OSHA/NFPA where applicable) and ability to apply them to safe maintenance practices and documentation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills: able to prepare clear technical reports, maintenance plans, and provide effective instruction to technicians and contractors.
Ability to coordinate multiple priorities in a fast‑paced operations environment, collaborate across disciplines, and maintain attention to detail while delivering results on schedule.
Preferred Qualifications - Domain & Tools
Professional licensure (e.g., PE, P.Eng.) or progress toward licensure is a plus.
Certifications or training in vibration analysis (e.g., ISO cat), reliability engineering, maintenance planning, or welding/inspection standards are advantageous.
Experience with PLCs, controls troubleshooting, and integration of condition monitoring with control systems and SCADA.
Familiarity with fabrication and shop testing practices, vendor oversight, and commissioning of refurbished or replaced equipment.
Experience leading outages, turnarounds, or major maintenance projects and coordinating contractors, inspectors, and third‑party test laboratories.
Work Environment & Compensation
Full‑time position within an interdisciplinary engineering and operations organization; role combines office‑based planning and analysis with frequent site visits, hands‑on maintenance support, and coordination with contractors and vendors.
Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience, including health coverage, retirement plan options, paid time off, and professional development support.
Opportunities for training, certifications, conference participation, and career growth within a diverse, inclusive, and safety‑focused workplace.
We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and foster a respectful work environment that supports work‑life balance and employee well‑being.
