Process Engineer
Join a collaborative, safety-minded team as a Process Engineer to optimize manufacturing, solve problems with data, and drive reliable, efficient operations.
We are seeking a collaborative, analytical, and safety‑focused Process Engineer to support design, optimization, and technical troubleshooting of manufacturing and processing systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with operations, maintenance, and cross‑functional engineering teams to improve process reliability, yield, and safety. This role requires strong process engineering fundamentals, data‑driven problem solving, familiarity with process control and instrumentation, and a commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
-
Develop, evaluate, and optimize process flows, mass and energy balances, heat and material transfer, and process control strategies to improve throughput, quality, and efficiency.
-
Lead root cause investigations for process upsets, quality deviations, and equipment performance issues; apply structured problem‑solving tools (e.g., 5‑Why, fishbone, FMEA) and implement corrective and preventive actions.
-
Design and specify process equipment modifications, piping, instrumentation, control logic, and automation improvements; prepare technical documents, scope, and cost estimates for capital and improvement projects.
-
Collaborate with operations and maintenance to support troubleshooting, start‑ups, commissioning, and process change implementations; provide technical guidance and ensure safe execution of modifications.
-
Perform process simulations, data analysis, and modeling to evaluate alternatives, identify bottlenecks, and quantify expected benefits; use process data and KPIs to prioritize improvement opportunities.
-
Author and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, control narratives, and risk assessments to reflect process changes and ensure consistent, safe operations.
-
Support process safety management activities including HAZOPs, LOPA, incident investigations, and implementation of safeguards to minimize hazards and regulatory risk.
-
Specify and support installation of instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, pumps, heat exchangers, and other process equipment; review vendor documentation and ensure as‑built documentation is maintained.
-
Monitor process performance metrics (yield, cycle time, energy usage, scrap rate) and prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders and leadership to drive continuous improvement.
-
Participate in cross‑functional continuous improvement initiatives such as Six Sigma, Kaizen events, and RCM projects to enhance reliability, reduce variation, and lower operating costs.
-
Provide training and technical support to operations staff on process fundamentals, change implementations, and troubleshooting best practices.
Required Qualifications - Skills & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Process Engineering, or equivalent technical degree; relevant combination of education and industry experience considered.
-
3+ years of process engineering or manufacturing engineering experience in industrial, chemical, or related processing environments.
-
Strong understanding of process fundamentals including fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mass balances, and control systems.
-
Experience with process control systems (DCS/PLC), PID tuning, basic control logic, and familiarity with instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature, level, analyzers).
-
Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Python, MATLAB, process simulators) and experience using CMMS or manufacturing execution systems (MES) is a plus.
-
Demonstrated experience leading technical troubleshooting, conducting experiments, and implementing process improvements that yield measurable results.
-
Working knowledge of process safety, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices; ability to apply risk assessments and ensure compliance with permits and safety procedures.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to read and produce technical documentation, P&IDs, PFDs, and equipment specifications.
-
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and support operational needs including occasional site presence during commissioning or troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications - Domain & Tools
-
Advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline or professional engineering (PE) licensure is advantageous.
-
Formal training or certification in Six Sigma, Lean, or continuous improvement methodologies and experience facilitating Kaizen or process improvement events.
-
Experience with process simulation packages (e.g., Aspen, HYSYS), CAD tools, and control system configuration tools.
-
Familiarity with reliability‑centered maintenance (RCM), predictive analytics, and condition monitoring to support integrated reliability initiatives.
-
Prior experience managing capital projects, vendor selection, and coordinating contractors during installation and start‑up activities.
Work Environment & Compensation
-
Full‑time role based onsite or in a hybrid arrangement depending on site needs; position includes regular interaction with operations and maintenance in indoor and industrial environments and may require site walkdowns, exposure to noise, and use of personal protective equipment.
-
Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience, including health coverage, retirement plan options, paid time off, and opportunities for professional development and certification support.
-
Opportunities for career growth through participation in cross‑functional projects, technical training, and leadership development programs.
-
We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and foster a respectful, safe work environment that supports work‑life balance and employee well‑being.
